Currently based in Paris since 2013, pianist Daniel Gassin returns to the Paris Cat for a whilst on a brief visit back to Melbourne.
For this date in the Parisian Loft, Daniel will perform a special repertoire of French music, and will feature Christophe Genoux (tenor saxophone and vocals) as well as other special guests.
Daniel was awarded Third Prize at the 2013 National Jazz Awards, and in 2007 was the sole Australian to reach the finals of the Jazz Solo Piano Competition at the iconic Montreux Jazz Festival.
In 2008 he was selected to participate in the Jazz & Creative Music Workshop in Banff, Canada, headed by acclaimed U.S. trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas.
In the same year, the Daniel Gassin Trio released its second album “Crossover” which was recorded by Mal Stanley for ABC Jazztrack.
In 2010, the Daniel Gassin Trio performed at the Dubai International Jazz Festival and the Queenstown Interntational Jazz Festival.
In 2011 Daniel made his Wangaratta International Jazz Festival debut as leader with his newly-formed Sextet.
The Sextet went on to be nominated for for Best Jazz Album at the Independent Music (AIR) Awards, with a track also earning a nomination at the 2012 Jazz Bell Awards for Best Australian Jazz Song of the Year.
In addition to performing and touring extensively with many of Australia’s (and now France’s) finest jazz musicians, Daniel has also performed with U.S. jazz greats Dave Liebman, George Garzone, John Riley and Bob Sheppard.
